OUR STORY
Playtime Music Academy of Greater Baltimore was founded by Scott Patrick McGowan and gives busy families the opportunity to enjoy taking music lessons from the comfort of their own homes through a music school that has a track record of more than 30 years of consistent excellence in delivering high quality music education.
Scott - who is a lifelong musician - began teaching piano / keyboard in students' homes in 1993. Within a year, he developed a waiting list and then in 1996 his now late wife Harlene joined him in providing lessons in students' homes.
When a joint waiting list developed - in 1997 they began growing a team of dozens of additional traveling instructors who were providing lessons to upwards of 200 and 300 weekly students for the vast majority of the next 20 years.
Since Harlene's sudden passing in 2017 - Scott has gone through many personal and professional changes but his unwavering commitment to music education remains the same.
Scott has returned to how it all began - by focusing on what he loves best - giving the lessons himself with a much fuller teaching schedule and a more limited team of additional instructors. In 2020 Scott began offering the remote option for families as well- and his new bride Kathy - another lifelong musician whom he wed in the summer of 2022 has since joined him in giving lessons as well.
Both Scott and Kathy enjoy teaching adults as well and they each have experience working with special needs students. With Kathy onboard, whose families have also been referring others as well - our offerings have been expanded as she is also available for voice, clarinet and saxaphone lessons.
